Dress Becomes Transparent When You Are Turned On

Here’s a piece of advice: If you’re planning to play it cool on a date, don’t wear this dress — it will give you away.

he Daan Roosegaarde designed dress, named ‘Intimacy 2.0,’ is made out of an opaque fabric that becomes transparent when the wearer gets aroused. When your heartbeat quickens, the opaque fabric gets electrified by it and responds by becoming clear.
The Daily Mail reports the award-winning Dutch designer used leather, smart opaque e-foils, electronics, LEDs, and copper among other technologies to create what he calls a ‘techno-poetry’ fashion style.
“Intimacy 2.0 is a fashion project exploring the relation between intimacy and technology.” Roosegaarde explains of his design “Technology is used here not merely functional but also as a tool to create intimacy as well as privacy on a direct, personal level which in our contemporary tech society is becoming increasingly important.”
We don’t necessarily understand how a see-through dress creates privacy, but we’ll play along…after all, this wouldn’t be the first time a fashion piece made us question the concept behind it.
The biggest problem we see with this dress is the possibility that it would show everything after we walk up a flight of stairs, or get into a fender bender, or do anything that raises our heartbeat. Not sure if that’s the type of dress we would add to our work wardrobe.
For now however, we don’t have to make that decision. Roodegaarde says the dress is only a prototype and is not yet available for sale in stores.
